Pellet Stoves
Hi There.
I am looking into getting a Pellet Stove, and I am wondering:
The best brand
If buying used is a good idea
My local retailer charges $1699.00 for a new manual one. It does not shut off when the room is warm enough, etc...
And then installation is around four hundred... and one ton of high-end pellets is around $275.00.
My house is about 900 ft of livable space, all on the same floor. There is a basement down below...
Just want to know my options.
Thanks.

That seems awful high for a pellet stove. Have you checked on-line?
A pallet of pellets here last week were $175.

I love pellet stoves, but last winter my area ran into a huge problem. Stock up early on pellets. Every store for 50 miles was sold out last year. They couldn't keep the pellets in stock. Not only that, but the price went up half way through the winter. So be warned and stock up ASAP.
That price sounds pretty high. I would check around.

Thank you. That would be a very big bummer.
I could do one ton for my place, for the winter, but when I get this all situated, I will get 2 tons to be on the safe side.
I think I found another dealer.
Thanks.

SIGH...I was looking at this post form last year...when $175 was a LOT for pellets. I just paid 270 a ton and it was the lowest by about $40 a ton!!

There is a web site that covers nothing but the different kind of stoves and fireplaces. There is also a discussion forum on the site, where all of these questions are answered by experts. Don't have the site handy since i'm away from home on someone else's laptop.

I was told the EXACT thing from a completely different source...that both HD/Lowes stoves were junk from China. Very thin and impossible to find replacement parts or service. We are buying a Napoleon stove...ver popular in Canada and Europe and the stove guys around here seem to know a little about them.
I also understand that if you treat it nice (cleaning on a regular basis)...that they never need a service technician anyway.

My research shows they are made in Virginia by England's Stove Works ( Pellet Stoves, Corn Stoves, Gas, Multi-fuel and Wood Stoves by England's Stove Works (R)). True, you have to do all the service yourself, but thats because the stove dealers will only service their own brands. If you are the type who would never pay someone else to do what you can do yourself, this isn't a bad thing
