Bathroom tile
I'm building a house and I am interested in upgrading the tile to a color different than the white, off white, and off off white tile that they currently offer in the bathrooms. I priced out an upgrade to a deeper, beautiful more masculine and modern tile and the upgrade is $3,069!! The original tile is only about $600. The tile would cover the floor, shower, bathtub and half of the walls in a not very large master bath. Apparently, I have very expensive taste as I'm sure there is other tile that is cheaper. Unfortunately, it took me forever to decide on the tile that I liked and now I'm back to the drawing board.
Does anyone have any opinion on a color/type of tile that would work well with dark cherry cabinets? If you have a link to a picture, that would be best. I don't want white 'cause it's too boring and I'm I want a modern/contemporary and not too girly bathroom.

I have done quite a few remodeling projects which include bathrooms. I need more information. What is the square footage of your bathrooms? We purchased Italian porcelaine tile, neutral colors with some movement, and it was just the right color. The tile that you priced - please tell me more about this tile.
I will send photos this evening of my latest remodeling project - master bathroom - all contemporary with 12 x 24 tiles on the walls - it came out really well. I will be happy to help just PM me if you need more info.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about sq. footage but the master is large enough for a vanity with double sinks, a soaking tub, small stand up shower, small linen closet, and room for the toilet. I believe it is approximately 110 sq. ft. The tile that I got priced kind of has a leather look to it. It's ceramic and darker/masculine. The floor was going to be 13X13 and the walls/shower werere going to be a 6.5X20 brick pattern. Honestly, I think it's slightly too dark but I couldn't find the right color. I want something that looks kind of like grayish slate with some hints of other color but I don't want to put actual slate in the bathroom. The tile I priced is very pretty, though, and I thought it was a unique look. Really, I just want something contemporary and no where close to the color white. It also needs to match with the dark cherry cabinets. I will likely switch out the plain white sink area for a dark stone in the future.

$ 3k over the $ 600 for that amount of tile is quite a bit. Is it gold edged ¿

You would think! I mean, when I chose it, I was thinking that it might double the price of tiling my bathroom. I didn't think it would be over 5 times as much! I have to say, though, that the base tile is super boring.

How about slate? Not sure on the price of it, but when it is sealed it looks gorgeous. Maybe you could compliment it with some glass tiles.

I ahve designed a few bathrooms for men, and they seem to have the same taste as you!! I prefer the darker tiles to the lighter when working with Cherry, gives it a richer look. I just did one with slate on the floor and a glass tile for counters and shower , looked amazing.

Doesn't slate hurt bare feet? I love the look of slate but I feel like it would be uncomfortable since it's not particularly smooth.

I had considered slate worktops in the kitchen at one time. Slate can be smooth finished. The problem is it will feel cold to touch. But it does have that unique look you are after
