My friend wants me to move in ASAP, but her house has just gone through a flea infestation.
So I'm hesitating.
The cat that started it moved away, and my friend bombed the house with treatment a few times over the past few weeks.
She now just has a few cats and birds that are "flea-resistant / treated / prevented or whatever" ... I forgot the exact term, sorry.
She has seen only a few fleas jumping on her feet this week...
She made it sound like it's pretty much resolved and that me moving in now is totally fine.
As a precaution, she would spray my room for the 3rd? time before I move my stuff in. There is no carpet in the room and just has wood flooring.
She would bomb the house again in case I get bitten after I move in...
I am worried about all the chemicals from the treatment that went / and could go in the house, besides the fleas.
Is it unhealthy or just a plain bad idea to try living there for a few days to see what happens? What would you do?

Fleas will multiply like crazy if they don't have a host. Dog fleas like dogs but will attack humans if there is no dog around. Same with cat fleas. How are the remaining cats being treated?? If their treatment is to resist fleas that method won't work because it just makes the fleas get on humans. A product to kill the fleas after they get on the cat works differently and the fleas still go in search of a cat.

So it all depends on how you are treating the remaining cats.

Toxic.

Why would she have such a bad flea problem? I wouldn't move in with someone like that.

If she's still having fleas jump on her, she didn't treat the place properly.

Don't move in until the place is cleaned up & treated by a pro.

Bombs don't work if there is stuff on the floor.

First, "bombs" will do nothing to get rid of fleas(it may kill that generation adults but eggs are unharmed), not having carpet is a good start, you need to spray liquid killer around the house designed for fleas, in corners and anywhere they can get in.

You need to make sure the animals(or you) are not bringing any new fleas into the house, flea baths and drops/dips are good for this but it may take a while.

Personally, I think fleas are much harder to get rid of than roaches, especially if you have an animal that goes outside regularly.

.

Use a spray that kills both adults and inhibits insect growth [like Ultracide.]

Fleas are one of the most difficult pests to get rid of other than exes but that is another topic for another thread.

If you have animals that go outside they bring more in, if YOU go outside you can bring them in, if you don't kill all of them and the eggs they may seem to be gone to just come back again.

if you put boric acid on the carpet and leave it 24 hrs it will break the shell on the flea and it will kill the flea . You must leave while this is going on because these fleas will be jumping and dying and they will jump on humans and nothing on the floor . then you have to go back and vacuum and then dump the vacuum into the trash bag and then vacuum again and then dump the trash bag outside in a big can with a lid . fleas are very hard to get rid of once they are in the house . If she has not hired an exterminator then she has not gotten rid of the fleas and i would not move in with someone like that ... end of story
