We park outside. Our detached garage is a workshop and storage for an antique car... would add another garage or would have built this one larger, but our county won't let us
"Pole barns are extremely common"... they won't let us put up a polebarns either, on acreage under 2 acres, some b.s. about "snow load"... YES, our county is very screwed up. Yeah I have even heard of people turning those new style polebarns into homes.
Definitely attached.

We are the same way. I did put my car in one section of the carriage house for a while, but it was a PIA to get in and out. Went back to parking outside. However the 1973 car does go inside at times. Mostly the garage is for storage and projects (currently restoration of a 1927(?) Magic Chef 1000). Eventually we may get room for cars in there, but it is hard to get out of the car (especially coupes with big doors) and annoying to inch them in and out. I doubt anyone will ever want their car int he garage unless it is going to sit for a long time.

Definitely detached.
Depending on how far away that detachment is... a breezeway of some sort could be nice.
If the lot size has you shoehorned in so no real choice is available... do what you have to.

And you forgot one main advantage to a detatched garage is being able to do smelly hobbies, like rebuilding and painting classic cars.

I saw a house recently that has been on the market for over 2 years. It has a detached, 1-car garage, which I'm fairly certain is a large contributing factor as to why it hasn't sold.

Do you mean it's a rundown rotted structure?
Many houses (even high $$ ones) in my area don't have any garage. I'm sick of pushing snow and scraping ice from the car. So I'm not picky about detached vs attached as long as the garage is usable.

attached...but side entry...don't like front facing garage doors...this is what I have now and totally dislike it...next house will be side entry, so from the street it's more appealing to the eye...not a fan of detached garages, unless there is a covered walkway-breezeway to/from...

Agree with all of these except #3. I don't own an umbrella. Long ago I discovered my body is 99% waterproof!
