Speaking from personal experience, when I was purchasing my primary residence and shopping for insurance for the closing process, one major insurance company said they could not insure me because there was a past claim for flooding on the property. Wouldn't even quote me a rate assuming no claims for comparison purposes.

I later found out they pulled a report for the wrong property (it was a neighboring unit with a recent claim), but this clearly shows that an insurance company may not even give you a policy due to past claims.

yep. in fact ask most folks about comprehensive claims against their auto insurance . 99% will tell you it doesnt effect your rates.

while your own company may not be able to raise you per your states laws they can drop you . then see how much those comprehensive claims that werent your fault cost you.

years ago i was shopping around for better rates .

we had a stolen air bag and hit while parked on record. neither was surchargable on our existing policy. best rate i could get because of clue was 2 times what i was paying.
