HELP! Mysterious Spot...
Can someone please give me some ideas what this is:
We have a mysterious spot on our bedroom ceiling. We have had a roofer out...the roof is fine,
we have been up in the attic, dry as a bone. Our house is approx. 25 years old with "popcorn" ceilings. We have painted over it a couple times and with the kind of ceilings we have it isn't easy. Anyone have any ideas??

The ceiling is white and "THE SPOT" is almost a light coffee color. It is about three feet away from the wall, not in the middle of the ceiling.
It is so strange, as I stated we have painted over a couple of times and it is coming back....
I don't know who to call now.

I am SO hoping someone explains this for you...I have one of these in my closet - (not a popcorn ceiling, tho) no roof prob., no moisture in crawl space...
We were finally able to cover it up with paint, but still wonder:
WHAT WAS THAT MYSTERY SPOT??

It sounds like a water stain, though you seem to have ruled that out. Is there any space between the attic and the ceiling that you might not be able to see clearly?
Are there any pipes that run in that area that could be leaking? Maybe a bathroom exhaust vent that could have some condensation coming off of it?
Is it near an outside wall? Near gutters? Someplace where water can back up and get into the space between the ceiling and the attic? Did you check the attic when it was raining? Do you have any air conditioning ducts in that area that might be leaking?
Remember, just because the attic was dry when you looked at it doesn't mean it isn't a water problem. You might consider trying to find a house inspector to come out and assess the problem to see what they find.

The spot is not near an outside wall, gutter, pipes or exhaust. The water heater and A/C are in the garage. We live in Sarasota, Fl. and it has not rained in days and "THE SPOT" greeted me this morning.
I have never thought of contacting a home inspecter, would they be able to find the problem?

A good home inspector will be able to tell if it is moisture causing the problem. They will probably know what is likely to be causing the problem by looking around. They've usually seen hundreds of homes and are experts in spotting issues like this.
