I live in apartment and have this woman upstairs who kinda literally stomps not just walks. I dont hear a lot of squeaks or creaking but hear a lot of heavy stomping. The worst part is she does it for hours, back and forth between my room, living room, kitchen. This woman is non-stop walking machine. Even when she gets outside, you can hear her striking sidewalk a lot more than other neighbors.
I lived in a place like yours for yrs, so I feel your pain. The elephant woman upstairs together with no insulation and structural separation between the floors were causing thomping every time her foot touches the ground and it felt like living inside a drum. The only remedy is moving out so I bit the bullet and bought my own place.

Thank you for reminding me that I never want to live in an apartment.
Is it possible to switch to a different unit, maybe one on the top floor so you don't have to deal with this noise?
I once had an air cleaner / fan which vibrated on the floor and made a lot of noise for the people downstairs. And I would run that at night.
From time to time I would hear the people below banging on their ceiling (my upstairs floor). And I had no idea what their problem was. They never talked to me.
I finally figured out it must be the fan. I placed it on a pillow and that was the end of their banging.
If they would have just talked to me, I would have figured this out sooner and would have been happy to do something about it.
"Excuse me...I'm sorry to intrude on your privacy, but I live in the unit below you and I can hear literally every step you take. If it is at all possible, I would appreciate your efforts in minimizing this noise as otherwise I will be forced to move. Thank you."
