Does anyone have any ideas how to keep a red-headed woodpecker from pecking our Stainless Steel Chimney pipe. It sounds like a machine gun going off!! He sits on the top of one of the braces.

I have them every year and just tolerate it. Normally gone after spring.

It seems they prefer a warm exhaust so we have had less noise since I changed water heaters and one pipe is now cold. It appears to be a communication or display of some sort and I used to get one on each pipe pecking in response to the other.

My neighbor has them on the side of his house and sometimes uses a non-lethal pellet gun to shoot at them.

I read that they are trying to attract a mate, but the noise is annoying and very loud!! And they start really early in the morning. Gets the dog barking etc.

I friend of mine uses a fake snake on the side of one of his barns to repel woodpeckers. Seems to work for him.

Hmmm. Maybe wrap a snake around each brace. We've used them to keep raccoons away. Nothing scares raccoons, but it might work for the birds. Thanks.

I heard that, too, but there's really no place to hang them. And, it's already bright and shiny up there. It's a pretty new SS chimney!

Screw a flag holder up there with a stick, or paint the flue flat black?

OMG!! That is SO funny!! I'm not sure how that would work on our SS chimney, but I sure could have used one in our last house!
