when you insulation problems, is that around the windows them selves, the walls, or the attic?

I have 1 unit out of 50 that I'm having a problem with condinsation on the windows and the occupants are not the first to occupy this unit. I've not had this problem with my other tenants. It seems to be more in one room then the rest of the house and the condistation in the other windows are only on the second floor. The room with the most condinsation also had an air purifier in it. Could that be causing the condinsation?

Your windows may be the problem.

I have several hygrometers in my 1,200 sq ft house (built in 1968). Before I had new windows installed two years ago, the humidity reading was usually @ 65-70%. Now it's @ 38%. And, when I take a shower, the humidity in that bedroom rises to 40-41%.

I found placeing a dehumdifier next to the air intake of the heater / AC the best.
I leave it on all the time with a setting of 45% humidity. (It turns on if the humidity exceeds 45%)
I run the drain tube down the AC drain.

Set and forget.

Make sure your yard is level - if there are troughs next to your foundation you'll need to pile some dirt around to even it out.

It sounds to me as though you don't have adequate ventilation in the eaves and the attic. Older homes do not usually have ridge or soffet vents. These take the moisture out of the home and vent it to the outdoors. Look up along the top along the house under the roof and if you see any louvers, (wooden slatted like windows) they may be clogged with squirrel or bat activities. Check them from the inside of the attic. I would screen them if they aren't already Make sure you use heavy guage metal screens since squirrels can chews right through regular screening. You can place exhaust fans in front of these and put them on a 16 hr timer. Sometimes the vents are triangular and located at opposite ends of a ranch style house.

You may want to consider contacting a reputable licensed contractor to install some ridge vents as well. Good luck.

I have a 1200 sq ft house, brand new windows through out and have condensation on all of them every day. Live in Upstate NY so the temp outside today was 28 and my windows have about 2-3" of condensation on them. Basement is dry,we run a dehumidifier 24-7. it smells like a basement.
I don't want the condensation on my new windows. Checked the RH and it was between 57-67 one day.
Help
