I am looking for a house as a first time home buyer.
Many homes-for-sale have satellite dishes installed directly into the siding. I don't subscribe to satellite or cable (and don't plan to ever), so the satellite company is probably going to take the dish back at some point. I will beat them to it by removing it. Is the satellite dish hole damage ("scars") to the siding of the house easy to repair (D-I-Y)? What should be done for wood vs. vinyl siding to prevent exposure damage (and cosmetic touch-up)?

Unless you call them and request they remove it feel free to remove on your own~ repair screw holes with either wood putty or some vinyl repair and touchup paint as you wish. I have previously done just that. My guess is the dish probably costs them less that the cost of routing in a service call.
Remove the dish yourself, the satellite company is not coming to get it. You now have a nice barbecue pit or bird bath or umbrella.
The repairs are as previously posted.
