I did...bought a house in '03 with and original gas furnace from 1964...had it looked at every year when I turned it on for the winter. Was concerned about carbon monoxide.

Had all new AC and furnace put in last Sept. First year check up is free. After that I don't know what I'll do year to year since I'm not as concerned about CO as I was with the original 1964 unit.

I did have a regular company I'd use, but did NOT have a maintenance plan with them, Just paid the 80 bucks each year. Well worth it, to me.

I have an all electric home. The Trane system we had put in 8 years ago has a 10 year warranty. The installers said we need to only call them if there if a problem occurs and that we did not need an annual service. We have had no problem. Our previous house we only had one inspection in 20 years and that was to replace a relay switch.
Now our neighbor has an annual service and it always seems that he needs $200 to $300 worth of repairs. Some companies take advantage of people and sell them parts or service they don't need. I can't convince him that he is being taken for a ride. He always says "well they showed me the bad part". He doesn't know if it's a bad part or a part just taken out of the serviceman's bag.
So it's buyer beware and if you do have servicing done check with the BBB or other agencies on their reputation. One of our local news station awhile back did a sting on several AC companies in our area and found 3 out of 5 were screwing the public.
