My roof is leaking and its terrible.
I will need a fibreglass ladder and came across extension ladders.
Does extension ladders make a good choice for roof maintenance?.

When I see this sort of Q about something as important as a roof in Canada...
I suggest people hire a professional. You should do that.

There are different "Type" classifications. E.g. Type I is rated at 300 pounds. Type III is 200 pounds.

Consider your weight as well as the weight of whatever you're carrying and get the correct type. If you're going to do a replacement and will be carrying shingles up the ladder add at least 50 pounds to the type.

Do you intend to repair the roof yourself?
If not, skip the ladder and hire a professional.

An extension should be placed at a 4 to 1 ratio, or for every 4' of height the base should be moved away 1'. Also, the ladder shall extend 3' above the work surface as per OSHA requirements. These safety laws do not pertain to a homeowner, but are good to know. Very few folding ladders meet the 3' above rule.
Have I used a folding ladder to get on my roof? Yes, I have a rule about my tool purchases for my home. I buy what does the job, because it may not be used often enough to warrant great expense. IE: my mitre saw, and table saw are inexpensive, because they just don't get used that often.
