We have a black fridge, and it doesn't show any fingerprints at all. However, it doesn't show much black either because it's almost totally obscured by kid's drawings, calendars, shopping lists and notes. You don't get that benefit from SS fridges because magnets don't stick to them.

We have Sub-Zero and Wolf stainless appliances and we just love them! I find them pretty easy to kep clean, although they do tend to show more fingerprints than say a white or black appliance. I really like the red or cobalt blue appliances. There are some high-end model homes in our area and one of the kitchens has all the red Thermador appliances and one of the others has all blue. They are really neat, but the hubster would never go for that.

We have stainless in the new home we're moving into. I love the look of them, but I'm going to miss being able to stick things on the door (pictures!!).
Actually I would've been totally fine with black, but it would have hurt us with resale value in our area. Also, nothing here over $300k has black.

But you never know what the new fad will be down the road, if it goes to another finish/color then people will have to swap out the s/s to sell their house!

Try WD40 to clean and shine the stainless steel appliances. Spray a little on a cloth, wipe, and it will shine like new. Everyone has WD40 in the house somewhere!!

Exactly. Washington Post had an article last Sunday on all of this. Basically said furnish with what you like (fancy that!) as you can always procure the trends when you actually do want to sell the house.

Eewww! If that isn't an argument for not having SS. I don't want to smell or breath in the nasty vapors of WD-40, thank you.

I love my SS appliances! I buy SS cleaning wipes in the container from the grocery store, and fingerprints wipe right off. Our fridge is not SS though, it's off-white. It's so covered in my preschooler's artwork that you can barely see it anyway. It would be a bummer not being able to put his artwork there if it were SS, though. But we will eventually replace the fridge for SS.

We're in the process of buying a new home and we're replacing the black kitchen appliances (fridge, dishwasher, range, and over-the stove wall-mounted microwave) with a Frigidaire complete appliance package in "Silver Mist" finish - it has the look of stainless steel but doesn't smudge. The whole package will cost about $2000.
