The previous owners installed an upstairs phone line by running the cable from the basement to the 2nd floor of the house and bringing it in through the exterior wall.
I would like to remove the phone cable and plug the hole. Any suggestions on how to fill it in? I was thinking of using some spray foam and silicon caulk for metal (aluminum siding).
I would fill hole with anything, but the out side I would get a scrap piece of alum.side from a scrap metal yard or someone removing from an old house,,,,,,,,,,,,,than cut to size, paint it then glue it on. hows that for an easy repair?? ps when glueing place siding up with tape...........good luck
I'd be more worried about patching the hole in the sheathing. It's no fun when the wind blows right through a hole in the house hidden by the siding. Not that it's hard, just take the one piece of siding off and use the spray foam in the hole in the sheathing.
I think the house should be torn down and rebuilt. People always are trying to take the easy way out. What if there was a FEMA emergency where you were instructed to seal your doors and windows with duct tape and plastic? Would you remember that hole? I think not!!! What about radon? Radon could come in that hole and kill you in your sleep. You can't be too careful!
You can put a plastic cap with a little bit of silicone on the rim to seal.
You can also use silicone to plug the hole and let it bulge out of the hole then let it dry. Cut it flush and paint it.
On the inside:
You can shoot some spray foam in the wall if you would like. It is only a small hole through the insulation though so not really worth the trouble and expense.
Patch, sand, and paint the hole in the wall/trim.
On the outside:
If I understand correctly, the hole is drilled through aluminum siding. If so, and it is still the original factory paint color (has not been repainted); you can buy colored caulking from metal roofing supply companies. Just buy the closet color and caulk the hole. If it has been painted, patch it, sand it and paint it.
