The advantage is in the stability for wide planks. Other than that, you pick any color. The biggest disadvantage- the wear layer is no better than prefinished- and the prefinished flooring finish is much harder than site-finished (even oil-based).
So, I see more reasons to NOT have than to have- but if you HAVE TO HAVE wide plank it maybe a formidable choice.
The wood we ended up picking as our possible final choice is a fairly dark wood, 5" wide plank, pre-finished, engineered wood called amaretto. It is supposedly finished with 9 coats of urethane finish. We scratched the sample as hard as DH could and it did not go through the urethane. The stain was left intact. The flooring consultant said the installers would glue the floor down, thus eliminating any shift.
