Assume 2,000 SF of tile to be installed.
For tile, you would order ~10% more, so that is 2,200 SF of tile.

For labor cost ($x/SF), do you pay labor on 2,000 SF, or the 2,200 SF?

Labor is paid on installed footage not purchased footage. Depending on what pattern you want you may need a lot more than actual sq ft and 10% overage. And depending on the difficulty of the pattern cost for labor can go up

What size tile and pattern are you using? 10% is low.

I see, so you pay rate based on how much tile was used.

6" x 24" tiles, with random stagger. 80 SF tile leftover.

I did a "Standard Versailles" pattern, used a 17% overage (that is how the # of boxes worked) and still ended up short.
