I did a demo on a Kirby years ago and your right on the money there way to heavy and bulky and a pain in the back side to move around so I did not buy one and I opted for the rainbow instead. wich has fallin down the stairs twice and it still runs like a champ and it was bought in 96
I just wanted to vacuum my home, not a freak-en mission, lol.. Sorry but that's how the Kirby felt....
I had a Rainbow demoin my home and my GF bought it. I went to a seminar about selling them and did so for a year. It was the perfecct segue for a new career.
Selling them is direct sales and I saw every type of vacuum out there. I could destroy, Electrolux and Kirby were easy. Electrolux blows tons of dust out of it's exhaust and Rainbow can suck a Kirby bag flat if put hose to hose when running. They use water for a filter and can pick up water as well. I have used mine to suck up my flooded basement several times as well as spilled liquids on carpet and hardwood. I have every attachment but a one or 5 gallon basin. It's 20 years old, runs great and they can be worked on like a car. Parts are available on the internet. The powerhead came with a roller brush/beater bar but I replaced it with a brush only roller I found on the internet for cheap - much better performance. You gotta have a brush for carpet.
I can take the things apart and service the motor and replace anything. It beats anything I have tried.
Had Kirby for like 40 years now and that is why hotels and others use them. Easy to change parts and brushes etc do wear out on any vacuum and cleaning suffers then. Cheaper less powerful motors llose suction over time.
owned one of them for two years and the beater brush motor makes all kinds of grinding noises wich is not good never again would I buy one
Must have gotten a bad one because my first one is going on 6 years strong and also just bought a second "lightweight" model a few years ago that is also working perfectly. As with all mechanical and electrical products, it is inevitable there will always be a certain % that are defective. But that's no reason to completely write off a certain brand/product for life, especially since in many cases you can get it repaired or replaced for free if still under warranty (my $199 Navigator Pro had a 5 year warranty - same as the $500 Dyson DC65 - but never had to use it).
Sebo is a really nice commercial machine. We've had a couple (that we then sold). My DH not only works on vacs, he's a serial collector. He gets a machine, we use it for a while, and then we sell it. We usually have at least one Kirby, as they are strong, easy to fix, and he just likes them. We have two Miele canisters, which are "mine", a Simplicity Series 7 that we're now selling, three Tristar/Compacts, and probably something else I'm missing. Oh, an Electrolux Silverado. And a bagless Kenmore canister that we're selling.
DH is with the rest of the vacuum people and won't have a Dyson. He and his vac people call them "Die-Soons".
Hubs brought home the nearly dead Sebo -- it will be the SECOND time it needs a engine work up -- it smells like something is burning badly, is LOUD and isn't picking much up. SO -- I'm thinking this time I'll get a Sebo Felix for the house. That one he won't take from me.
Bad news is my faithful ergorapido is dying... and I'm thinking of not replacing it....

your right on the money . that's how I felt. it was a pain in the azz to maneuver around. I just want to vacuum the house not fight with the vacuum cleaner and struggle . I sure in the hell won't pay 1,500 bucks for something I can't use
