I live in a condo. There is a separate entrance from my front porch into a storage room that also contains my furnace and water heater.

I just went to get my cat carrier out of the storage room, and I can't open the door. It pushes out at the bottom and the middle past the hardware for the lock/doorknob, so it's not that it's locked. It's just STUCK at the top of the door somehow. I am not sure what to do. I pounded it a couple of times and kicked it once, but I don't really want to break the door.

It's been a colder-than-usual winter here, and my front porch and the entrance doors are on the north side and rarely get light. Is it possible that either the hinges or the jamb or the top of the door are somehow frozen? The inside of the storage room is heated. though.

I am going to wait till tomorrow when it's supposed to go up to 40 and see if I can open it, otherwise I will have to call someone.

I don't know as it could be frozen given your description but it could be warped. Try tomorrow, as you said, but I think you're going to need to call someone.

Can you run a hair dryer on it for a bit?

Maybe not frozen, as in iced over, but the wood could be swollen making it stick. Try spraying some WD-40 where it's stuck, let it sit for 30 minutes or so and see if it opens.

Our door sticks when wintervrolls around. I think the wood expands because there's moisture inside that freezes? Sometimes I have to put my hip into it to get open.

Try some WD40 along the top edge. Hopefully some of it will work it's way into the crack. WD40 on the hinges and latch will be useful, too.

Yes, it's not iced over, but maybe the wood is swollen, as you say. I will get some WD-40 tomorrow and try that.

I can't see the hinges. They would be on the inside. The latch is not a problem. I can push that part of the door in an inch or so. It's stuck at the top where the actual door is attached to the doorjamb.

Thank you both for answering.

My hip isn't budging it, lol, but it's stuck at the TOP of the door. I'm tall, but not THAT tall.

That's an idea. Except...the extension cord I would need to run a hair dryer from the living room out the front door and over the porch to the storage room door is in the storage room!
