If I am home alone, as a woman, I will NOT answer the door unless I know I've ordered pizza. My heart races and I actually get scared. If I answer the door, it will be with my .40 because I don't know who is on the other side or what their intention are. I have a 2 year old, and I'm prefer not to have a confrontation with her in the house, so I avoid the door when my husband it away. Period.

Is it normal? Is it some kind of defensive mechanism that people do? They purposely ignore people wanting to talk to them, or even disconnect their doorbells to not be disturbed??
My house is situated in the middle of a 15-acre plot. In order to get to my door-bell you would have to clime the fence or my entrance gate that's about 500 feet away from the house down the driveway. If I ever catch you doing this, you'll be pulling 9 pellets (amounts to 12gauge) out of your arse.

To be honest. I never used to answer my door bell. Never. I worked a lot in those days. Any free minute I had was mine to just turn off my brain and not think about anything. If you think about it, when someone knocks on your door, and you are not expecting anyone, then you have really no way of knowing who it is, unless you walk over to the door, and look through the peep hole, which tips to the person knocking that you are home. You are just hiding. Which may cause some people to feel like you are hiding from them, when 99% of the time, it has nothing to do with the unexpected guest. For the person knocking, it is only a rejection of you in your mind, if you choose to interpret it as such.

I never used to answer the door because of the type of building I used to live in. It had a front door that offered direct access to the outside. Someone could just walk up and knock on your door. I do not like that. Once there was a knock at my door and I am sitting on the throne. The knocking continues with a harder, more urgent rap. But I am only just mid-way through my going to the bathroom. By the way, I hate being interrupter while in the middle of taking a #2. I mean, you have to finish in a stress free environment, or these could be problems later. (Do the math on that one). So, back to the front door, BANG, BANG, BANG. Who the hell is this? I finish in the bathroom and go to my door cause I am pissed off. I open the door and there is no one there! Are you kidding me!? Then the phone starts ringing. What the hell is this? So I answer the phone, and it is the police. They say that they are calling because I did not answer my door. So, I say, well, why were you knocking on my door? And the cop says, your mother called. She said you were not answering your phone, and asked us if we could come by an check on you. Really? I did not know police did that. I told the police that I typically do not answer my phone and I don't answer my door. The police asked me to call my mother, which I did. But Jesus Christ, sometimes you just want to be left alone.

Check out the court case now in Alexandria VA. Men need to be careful opening the door to strangers.
