So it wasn't 2 minutes after my bathroom remodel was complete that the wife said the heat wasn't working. Thermostat said it was 67 and we had it set to 72. It wouldn't heat about 67. I changed the batteries first and obviously that wasn't it. PProceededto take of cover of furnace and stare at it like ssomething was gonna just seem broke. Lol. Again abviously not the case. I've never dealt with any sort of HVAC so I called my buddy who did HVAC for some time and he told me to find the heat sensor rod. Turn off the furnace. Remove the rod. Sand it back to a shine. Re install. Turn on the furnace. ..... Fast forward two house and its 72 degrees again. Could it really just be corrosion on the heat sensor or could it be something more that I temporarily fixed. .... Nothing I've EVER done has been that easy of a fix. And of u guys ever done that to ur furnace .?
Seriously though, good for you. That part doesn't sense heat though it does get hot, it senses the presence of a flame. Google "flame rectification" sometime if you want to bore yourself to death and you'll appreciate it's ingenuity.
Also, sand paper is a no no for cleaning flame rods. It's like shaving hair...it only comes back thicker. A dollar bill, believe it or not, is the preferred method.
