Just replace the leaking cooling coil and be done with it. Odds are you have 5-10 years of life left in the condensing unit so leave it be.

I'm in one of the highest cost of living areas and my price for a coil R & R would be closer to the $1,700 figure.

There is a place called AC under 3k.

They replace the whole system, and its usually right around 3 grand.

They are in Austin and I had a friend who had them change out the furnace and AC in her small 1200sq foot house.

It was about 2600 bucks, done and done.

Goodman is the brand they used, which may not be top of the line but it comes with 10 year warranty.

I'm not sure why anyone would take apart a 10 year old equipment and rebuild it for similar amount of money.

I agree with those who said that when the house was built, the AC unit supplied from the builder wouldn't last that long, they usually supply cheaper units, mine lasted 11 years which in my case wasn't bad but it was a low grade one
