One of the things I am thinking for my place in the country is a star gazing tower. Well, that may be quite a bit expensive right now (probably will never be cheap), so I am considering other aspects in moments of thought. A skylight, perhaps?
Or this morning, I was looking through the window at the turn of the staircase, observing the low clouds, being fascinated at being able to see the edges in such detail as they were changed by the aloft winds.
Equally, right now in this house, on the second floor, I'm watching one of the cats following the birds flying by.
In my house to be built, though, it is to be one story. I am thinking of putting in a circular staircase, but that is more as something for a cat pleasure.....and maybe to have it around for the time when I do have a star gazing tower.
But a stairway leading up to just a window to the sky, slanted or straight, what are the thoughts on that?
I had a couple of windows that allowed star gazing but the most intense star here is the sun and I had to extend eaves to reduce solar gain. Less star gazing but less heat gain.
1. Out in the country, I expect/hope to have less light pollution, hence making star gazing more enjoyable.....especially on those nights when I am not at work on my night shift....and perhaps bored out of my mind.
2. Extendable shades/awnings are a very real consideration......but I'm not sure how much those should be part of house plans.
3. I will probably have louvers on such a window because of hail damage potential......but then, that is rather counter productive, so I'll have to figure that one out.
