Hi. We have a Genie PowerMax 1500 garage door. Today, after I left the house, my husband pushed the interior button to lower it and it started going down. Apparently, our son decided to "help" lower the door by pulling it down a little and tripped the safety sensor. The door stopped and didn't move.

We go the door down later with the cord, but now the door won't lift back up. We've tried unplugging the unit and plugging it back in, but that hasn't worked. What else can I do? It's Sunday, and no one is open to help us figure this out.

Attempt to pull the release cord, and then manually lift up on the door pushing it back in the open position. The Genie opener needs to be disengaged from the door by the pull cord. Remember the garage door may be very heavy to lift. Call a repair service to fix the opener on Monday.

That happened to me once at Mom's. We were in the breakfast room, heard a very loud BIONG! and found that half the spring had snapped.

Without the spring, that garage door weighed its full 800 pounds or so and with my Forester on the inside, I wasn't going anywhere that night.

So I called work, let them know, and we called the repair man the next morning who came out with a jack to fix it.

Hopefully, your problem is not as great but if it is, accept the futility of it and enjoy the evening as best you can.

I finally figured it out. I realized that the manual had a section about the lights that are on the actual unit. It said that I had to reset the travel limits. Once I was able to find that, I fixed it in about 2 minutes without having to spend a dime.
