I've got a really quiet one from Quietcool. The fan is at the opposite end of the insulated ceiling louvers, connected by a 5ft insulated duct. I love it, but it only moves 1,400 CFM of air but is really quiet and only uses 105watts.

The DOE has done dozens and dozens of studies yet people still want to complicate things. It is simple: Reduce the transfer of heat into the upper floor by means of insulation / radiant barrier / elimination of air leaks SAVE BIG MONEY, make folks more comfortable YEAR ROUND and has the FASTEST PAY OFF of any sort of upgrade!

There are nearly NO studies that show any sort of change in fans / A/C really is effective...
