All - Home warranty company will be replacing the AC condenser (after previously having replaced the compressor twice and it still went out again).
They are telling me that the non covereds and out of pockets will be the following:
CONCRETE slab:$155.00(CODE), OUTDOOR DISCONNECT:$185.00(CODE),
FL/SW:$125.00-OPT,
HIGH VOLT WIRE IN CONDUIT:$110.00(CODE),
LOW VOLT WIRE IN CONDUIT:$155.00(CODE),
CHEM TREAT DR LINES:$195.00-OPT,
LOCKING CAPS:$70.00(CODE),
MISS/DET INSulation ON FREON LINES:$90.00(CODE),
LINE STE EXTESNION:$100.00(CODE) TOTAL:$865.00-$250.00=$615.00 W/O OPTS. $935.00 W/OPTS
Anyone here with experience that can B.S.-proof this for me?
There is already a concrete slab there (under the old condenser), is it really necessary to pour a new one?
Outdoor disconnect is already there for the current condenser. Why put in a new one?
CONCRETE slab:$155.00(CODE), You have it
OUTDOOR DISCONNECT:$185.00(CODE), You have it
FL/SW:$125.00-OPT, Huh? Could be a condensate overflow switch/
HIGH VOLT WIRE IN CONDUIT:$110.00(CODE),You better already have it.
LOW VOLT WIRE IN CONDUIT:$155.00(CODE), Not a code requirement but it's nice, a very expensive nice
CHEM TREAT DR LINES:$195.00-OPT, Bleach down the condensate drain line...just have them blow it out.
LOCKING CAPS:$70.00(CODE), That's a code requirement
MISS/DET INSulation ON FREON LINES:$90.00(CODE),That's a code requirement
You can't/shouldn't expect them to complete work that doesn't meet code. As you've probably realized, these HW contractors take on low profit work and try to make up the difference on non covered extras.
If your state has an aggressive energy policy, the condenser and indoor coil must match for a minimum efficiency rating. Don't let the warranty company wiggle out of their required compliance but don't blurt anything out until you've thoroughly read the contract..it could be out of your own pocket.
