how do you all feel about other people putting their dog poop in your trash. I start by saying i love dogs but i dont have one currently (grew up with one). i put my trash out twice a week for pickup and more often that i'd like, when i come home from work i pull my empty trash can back into my garage to notice it has a doggie bag of poop in it. i think its rude to put that in someones empty bin knowing it will sit there for a few days just stinking. i'm about to start just throwing it in the middle of the street.

thoughts? about the topic, not throwing poop

Well, it's rude, of course. But it sure beats them just leaving it there loose on the ground on your property or wherever the dog decided to go. Could be a lot worse.

Solutions are to either keep your can inaccessible or to find a way to lock it.

In some areas of the country, using someone's trash bin without permission is illegal.
You might want to check your local laws.
Not that it is likely you will ever catch somebody doing it, but it would be nice to know exactly where you stand, legally.
You could post a "PRIVATE PROPERTY, NOT FOR PUBLIC USE" sign on your bin, just to see what happens.
I see such signs on dumpsters near "PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT" camping areas. Campers like to throw their trash in the first dumpster they see, and enough of them can fill it on a Sunday afternoon when they all head for home!

You could try an put a note on the lid

"Do not discard trash in empty can; it means I will have your stink in my house for days!"

Can't hurt to try that.

But they might just throw it on the ground.....

well, most of the neighbors on the street pick up after their dogs thankfully, so that has not been an issue. the thing is nearly everyone walking (probably 100%) their dog on the street live on the same block so just carry your dogs "property" to your own trash bin. its a matter of holding onto it for 3-4 minutes tops.

i will be putting a sign on my trash similar to worldklas posted..."don't put your dogs poop in my trash"

It would drive me nuts. Absolutely.

But I have a neighbor whose dogs come poop in my yard. Frequently.

In comparison, I'd rather have poop in my trash can.

This worked for me. I wrote on a piece of duct tape in top of the can.

It drives me CRAZY! I would never do it to someone else. The reason I hate it so much is that our trash company does not have the kind of truck with an auto arm that raises the can. The guys get off the truck, reach in and throw the bags into the truck by hand.

So either THEY have to throw your dog poop away or it gets left in the bottom of MY can.

I've done it, but only when the bin hasn't been emptied yet. I would never put it in an empty bin. And since I have dogs, I wouldn't care if someone put it in mine, simply because my own dogs' business is in there.

I am the only one in my neighborhood that picks up after my dog on walks, which makes me nuts.
