Which one do you have or which do you prefer? I like gas stoves better because when I am through cooking, I can turn it off and not worry about it overcooking my food. I can cook with an electric stove too, but it isn't as exciting. It doesn't give that same experience as the gas stove does. I wonder why the electric stove is so hot (no pun intended, ok maybe a little) anyways.
I suppose it depends on what you're used to. All I knew were gas stoves until one day my dad bought my mom an electric stove and she hated it. I like gas because I know it. I can see the flame and know by looking about how fast or slow it will cook something.
I'm in Florida now and electric is predominant. Like my mother, I don't like the electric coil burner but there are some very sophisticated electric ranges in homes today. Whether I like electric or not, I'll have to learn to live with it.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. Gas is faster, hotter and more responsive. Modern electric ceramic cooktops are thermostatically controlled, easier to clean, and the oven includes a broiler that actually works.
My preference... gas stovetop burners, electric convection oven. Had the best of both worlds with a Viking 6 burner gas cooktop and 2 Dacor electric convection wall ovens. Holiday meals for the extended family were a breeze.
One reason not to have gas in your house is a recent explosion in the city where my father lives. 1 dead and 13 injured, and the 2 homes on either side also were damaged.

There's a trunk line running right along my property line ten feet from my dining room. Choosing an electric over a gas wouldn't make a bit of difference in the risk of a natural gas explosion. That being said, our house now runs on solar power, so I have an electric range.
