We would like to eventually re-do the entire bathroom, but that is probly 3-4 years away.
Does anyone know of a relatively cheap, easy way to change the color of the gold part of this shower surround short of completely replacing it? I was thinking we could take it apart and spray paint it with outdoor textured paint (like the stuff you might paint a metal bench with), though it might be better to tape/paper everything off really well and do it installed (to not screw up the joints).
I don't want to jump in without hearing what others think, has anyone tried something like this? or is it probly better just to live with it ugly for a few years rather than mess with it? Is there a product out there that might accomplish this with better results?
I spray painted a pair of gold-rimmed mirrored closet doors just the way you describe. I covered the glass with paper and taped off carefully. If I could have, I would have moved them to the back yard, but they were too heavy for me by myself, so I just put a lot of paper on the floor. I bought the Rustoleum metallic look paint in a brushed nickel color and they turned out great (it was a previous house, so I don't have a photo -- sorry).
Ok, great! I can see the pics in Wmsn4Life's posts, and will definitely look into this closer. I just wanted to make sure it was doable before we went into the hardware store like rubes! Lol.
I know it will be a pain to tape everything up, but I think it will be worth it when we have the finished product. If anyone else has anything to contribute or tips, I'll be happy to read them. Thanks!

I would not got to all the trouble of a ton prepping/cleaning, tape, paint, etc., then wind up having it with scratches... It is just only a coat of paint...
