Installing a photo cell upstream is an option I'd rather not because I plan on installing a few more of these on my house and doing it at all of these locations will become quite expensive, and they are not the smallest or nicest looking things out there.

7 different locations total.
It is generally a simple thing involving shifting current around the photocell. However you need a circuit diagram to know how to do it. You might query the customer service of the manufacturer or the seller. I think this is a house brand so it may be the seller.

You could also ignore the prioblem. The bill is likely around a nickel a day for 7 of them.

Lightbulb Light pipe with household materials

If you've already got the sensitivity to the max, there are a couple of easy ways to set up a light pipe.

You can get a piece of clear acrylic rod or bundle heavy fishing line to get the same effect as fiber optics without the fragility. Or take a long clear hot glue stick and cut one end at an angle to collect light, heat the other end and stick it to your sensor.
