I have many smoke detectors in the house, and they keep chirping 1 by 1. The standard battery is the Carbon/"heavy duty" type, Everready brand. So they definitely put the cheapest battery in here. The smoke detectors are hardly 10 months old!

So should I buy lithium 9v batteries to put in there or regular alkaline. The best prices seem to be on Amazon. They have Energizer lithiums and the Amazon brand of batteries have very good reviews (alkaline). Is it with it to spend the money on lithium 9V in smoke detectors? I'm reading reviews that the lithium 9V in smoke detectors don't really last that much longer than alkaline.

The chirping is their way of telling you the batteries are dying. You're supposed to change them every year, so 10 months isn't unreasonable. No reason to spend money on lithium batteries; any alkaline battery will be fine. This is a potential life safety issue! Do it ASAP.

Change the alkaline batteries every year. I change mine twice a year when the time changes...small price to pay...

The other problem with the smoke detectors is that they start chirping while the battery still has plenty of oomph remaining, but I don't have many other devices that can take a 9V battery.

To use up the half-dead batteries from the smoke detectors, I picked up one of these for five bucks:

When you say 'they'.. Who's they?

If you bought the house.. You have no idea how long those batteries have been in there. If you bought the detectors new with those batteries included.. No idea how long they've been on the shelf.

Standard 9v will do nicely. Don't wait for them to chirp before changing.

I change mine every fall.
They never chirp (unless I test them for functionality).
I get my 9V at Costco.

Buy a 10 year smoke detector, or change them every year.

I replaced mine and use the 10 year. The electician told me expect 5.

I have to pay big bucks to change the one stupid battery it's on my peaked ceiling around 13 feet up.

You can google about sometimes it's your smoke alarm not the battery. That's why I changed mine even though they were only 3 years old when I moved in here.

I ADORE Amazon but not sure I'd do batteries there. We have a battery store in my town (yes really LOL) so I went there.
