Do Turbines help cool the attic? (roof, Lowes, heat, paint)

Can anyone tell me if the turbines (not the powered ones) cool the attic better than the low dormer (turtle vents?) I had 3 turtle vents for a 2600 sq ft 2 story roof (no, I have no idea how many sq ft the attic is). I live in texas where little wind comes in july, august and sometimes sept and june. tornados and wind and hail caused me to have to have the roof replaced. I have had issues with birds and animals getting into the attic thru the turtles (still watch it every evening with my neighbors) and the roofer suggested the turbine stating that it took very little wind to help the movement of air, thus helping to reduce the heat in the attic. I believed him. Had the insulatation checked and purple stuff painted under the roof (I can not remember what that is called). I am a single older lady and want to know if I have been had! or given good advice! I've only been in texas 9 years and the tornados and hail seem to always be an issue with roofs. The advice would be nice for when and if I have to redo the roof again. A neighbor told me to go with a ridge and soffit next time? Thank YOu all who respond. Robin
Their job is *NOT* to cool, but to vent the roof. But yes, turbine vents do expel air more efficiently. You'd need 12 "turtle" vents for a 2600sq/ft roof (if you were all 1 level), vs 4 turbines. Just make dang sure you have enough soffet vents or you're putting your roof through the wringer and it won't last.
Personally, I like ridge vents. Lowest profile, best look.
