Anybody with carpenter ants, make SURE you don't have any dripping water type leaks anywhere. IF there is, that's what they are targeting, and you'll never get rid of them permanently without solving that issue first.
Those things can be as bad as termites, so you want to make sure you take care of them as fast as possible.
Just want to add to the thread, because I have ant problems in my kitchen occasional. In addition to using Terrero baits...WINDOWS/GLASS CLEANERS, kills ants on contact...I use that for my contact killing instead of raid spray which gives me a headache.
I've had luck with the baits that are self-contained (used indoors many years back), but recently no luck with the Terro that come in a bottle that you drip onto pieces of cardboard. I'm guessing they are formulated the same but when I used the drops outdoors, the ants just repeatedly covered it up with sand like they knew it was bad for them. What gives? Evolution?
No one seen or experienced this huh? Anyone ever try Terro outdoors? I try because there are mounds bunched up in places and I wanted to eradicate the colony instead.

My guess would be many, many ants are being drawn to the bait, inturn dragging a bunch of sand as they do. You do know it is not a contact killer, right? They take it back to the nest where it slowly does it's thing.
I had no success with Terro on carpenter ants. Had to order stuff off of Amazon called Advanced carpenter ant bait. I drilled into the drywall and put the stuff inside the walls. It took a very long time to get rid of them. It was very pricey when all was said and done.

They make a bait station now. A few weeks ago, I had tiny ants all over my front steps and used one of the indoor traps. They were all over it until it got blown away.
Terro has separate outdoor products. However, if I were going to dump something on a mound, I admit I'd probably just mix up a batch of syrup and borax, and see if that worked just as well.

I've watched it over several days in several places. They have no interest in it whatsoever after the initial curiosity. They purposely cover the circle it makes over time.
I'm guessing the formulation in the bottle tastes unattractive to them.
