I just had my deck rebuilt and extended. I had a line for my natural gas grill running along the side of my house, then underground to the deck. When I dug it out (because the new deck covers the underground part), I found the line consisted of 1/2" tubing, buried about 1/2" below ground. Then a joint and some more tubing. Then a reducer and 3/8" tubing bent upwards at 90 degrees to get to the deck surface, followed by the quick-connect (pointing straight up of course).

The first 1/2" flare nut was cracked. The connection to the next run of tubing was made with white teflon tape. The "reducer", instead of being a 1/2 x 3/8" flare union like any normal person would expect, was a 1/2 x 5/8" inverted flare followed by a 5/8" x 3/8" adapter. Whatever's on the truck, right? All connections there were made with white Teflon tape also. The 3/8" tubing was badly crimped in a few places, as was the second section of 1/2" (though I may have worsened it when I dug it up). The long run of 1/2" tubing even has a crimp, though there's enough left for me to use with the new deck (which extends to the side of the house so no burying necessary.

Well, as long as you make sure never to light it... I'm sure it'll be OK.

Fired it up today with all the bad stuff cut off and new fittings. Grill seems to heat up considerably faster, can't imagine why...

Well, you certainly called it!

That's all just insane, and I just can't understand people that stupid, especially when dealing with gas...
