When I read your thread title I thought it was going to be a post about what an exceptional neighbor you have.

Some years ago my wife and I lived in Orange Country NY, on a pretty large parcel of land (all our neighbors had pretty large lots). A wind storm came up and a tree fell on my neighbors house. The next morning after the storm I brought my chain saw over to his house, another two neighbors showed up and we managed to remove the offending tree in short order.

That's what neighbors do.

My word, I would be so happy if a neighbor did that.

Are you serious? You're mad because you have a good neighbor who was helping you clean up after a storm? I'd be super happy.

I am a bit taken aback by your ungrateful attitude. Seriously.

I'd have been over to thank him with a plate of homemade cookies asap.

That is the norm up North. We help, they help....

Glad i don't have any neighbors like you. God forbid someone does something for you out of kindness.

I moved to SW TN from Staten Island. You're right, NYers wouldn't even think of helping out a neighbor. But you're not in Queens anymore. You're in the south.

We've had 3 tornadoes hit our area since we moved - and each time, those affected had more immediate assistance than they could use - not just water and food, but backhoes, tractors, and strong backs and arms to help.

I could tell immediately from reading your first post. I could spot the "northeast" a mile away. (I'm from NJ)

People from the northeast (particularly NY/NJ/PA) are unbelievably paranoid about lawsuits.

Relax. Thank your neighbor.

Yes, that's exactly what neighbors do. That's why greeting someone with the words "hi, neighbor" is such a friendly thing to do.

You can always take the girl outta Queens; but you can't take the Queens outta the girl!

Reminds me of the transplants I'd have to deal with when they came to the ATL- long story short- I can't remember how many times I said "you're not in " "; and we don't do it that way here.
