Eh, in my area, stainless is out or almost out. Everything is going back to white. Flipped houses don't sell well. One of the first things people look for are SS, gray walls, and whatever that shelf-type thing is in the shower.
What I'm really excited about is that I've seen mentioned in several areas, that buyers want a kitchen with a smaller footprint. Thank goodness. I've always picked houses with smaller kitchens.
My only point is White and Stainless are steadfast choices that manufacturers keep offering.
One of our neighbors has coffee color applicances... she was distraught she could not find a replacement coffee color dishwasher... it did not matter what brand or price.
I helped her buy a new Dishwasher with a white panel... then took the panel to a local body shop and had it painted coffee... they charged $200 and she was ever so grateful...
My brother bought a White Bosch Dishwasher for next to nothing... the only reason is it was White... the Walnut Creek California store said they had not sold a white Bosch in 2 years and had marked it down to sell...
My 1940's Wedgewood is white porcelain and chrome... been offered a brand new wold range for it... no way am I parting with it because one side is gas and the other wood...
I think stainless steel appliances are hideous looking and every home i go into that has them their are smudges all over it. Plus "stainless steel" is thrown out like the word "heavy duty" is. The stainless steel is low quality and very thin gauge. Real stainless steel is found on commercial appliances not home owner grade. .
No such thing as "home owner grade" stainless steel.
However, true commercial stoves are very ugly and require duct and exhaust work that costs in the tens of thousands of dollars which makes them prohibitively expensive even in the most expensive homes.
The term 'chef's kitchen' is stupid because a chef can cook over a sterno can.

The owner of our company is remodeling their kitchen. Rather than laying off the family chef, they have him come in a few days a week and make lunch for everyone (200 - 300 people). He actually cooks much of the food over a Sterno can. Needless to say, he is a very good chef (You do not get hired to be a wealthy family's personal chef unless you are quite good at cheffing).
who cares what color appliances are. whenever i have company we chill in the living room (not the kitchen).
Hear, hear.
I absolutely hate the open concept kitchen-family room setup. I love separate family rooms, living rooms, dine in kitchens, formal dining rooms, utility rooms, etc.
We had black appliances and they looked so nice. But when we upgraded we decided to go with stainless steel for a change. We don't like it at all. We will be going back to black. We have red oak cabinets that are stained a golden oak color. Looks good with the black.
