The other thing - we have one of those "Toilet closet" rooms - but when you shut the door to do your business, it gets hot as blazes because there's an exhaust fan, but no air vent. Thoughts anyone



When the door is closed, can you feel air movement under the door? If not the rug may be blocking the air flow. Cut the bottom of the door or install a vent in the door. If you can feel air then perhaps the fan is not moving enough air to cool the room. If you can get above the ceiling perhaps change the fan to one with a higher "cfm" for more air movement.

Ear plugs??

I'm having a hard time picturing the set up too so maybe my suggestion won't help but can you add insulation in the wall to dampen the noise? It would be a mess but should help if I have the right idea of what the problem is.

The problem is that there's no door. You could double the thickness of the wall and stuff it full of soundproof insulation and he's still going to hear everything through the uncovered doorway.
