I have no room for an ironing board in my laundry room. The room in lined with cabinets on both sides and I have ended up pressing clothes on a towel laid across a tiled counter. I do a small amount of pressing, but I do do it. I like some things to be pressed.

I have a clothes rod for hanging clothes just pulled out of the dryer.

I am wondering if a clothing steamer would work for my situation? I would not be able to put up a board, as the door to the laundry room is a pocket door. I am thinking a hand steamer might be OK but not if I have to have a backer board behind the garment. Also, I am a little concerned about mostly plastic steamers working for a while and then breaking. And, I also wonder about their weight. And I wonder if they work well.

Anyone use a steamer? Could I have your experience?

Thanks in advance.

Get a hand held one. Easier to maneuver. Sweaters, shirts are refreshed! My good review is it's great for instant results... When you notice the item needs a quick go over. I did my drapes with one... Took a bit of time but it turned out

I cannot part with my iron or board. It's my "meditation" therapy. Something so relaxing about ironing

I tried it years ago. No way do they equal ironing. Rather than invest in one, soak a couple washcloths in water, squeeze most of it out and then put them and the garment in the dryer for five minutes. The tumbling and moisture and warmth will make a marked improvement.

What about a wall mounted ironing board that can fold up into one of the closets? https://www.amazon.com/Hafele-Americ.../dp/B001DSY7YI

Steamers are good for getting out wrinkles but not so good for "pressing" if you want a crease.

Store your ironing board elsewhere. I gave a big steamer away as it was not worth the trouble.

Steamers are good for minor wrinkles on light fabrics but won't work for heavier items or really set in wrinkles, or only if you really spend a lot of time. Sometimes only an iron will do.

I have only owned hand-held steamers and neither of them were useful. Both leaked water all over and did a marginal job at best. I did use a professional steamer at one of the theaters and it worked so well I was tempted to buy one for home. After reflection, I realized that I liked ironing.

Currently, most of my garments are knits and I use Downy Wrinkle Release. A spray and a tug and the shirt is quite presentable.

I appreciate this thread. I still have a steamer in a box that I bought about 10 years ago......lol. I still love to iron though when I have the time. Talk about letting the mind range over many things....very theraputic. lol
A lost art.....

I have small handheld steamer for travel. It uses water only. It works fine for travel. At home - I iron.

BTW: do you have Wrinkle-Free garments or use wrinkle reducing sprays?
