Default Vacuum cleaners

Hi all-I wanted to see if anyone LOVES their vacuum. I need some recommendations. I have a subscription to Consumer Reports, but some they recommend, the reviews don't say the same thing. My friend has a Dyson and loves it, but suprisingly it's not on the top of the list for CR. I do have pets so one that picks up pet hair well is definitely needed.

Thanks for any advice!

We, too, have a Dyson and absolutely love it. We've had it since they first came out (I think 2004?) and it works as well now as it did when we bought it. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

My vacuum cleaner broke about a month or so ago. I had always wanted a Dyson, but couldn't really justify $400 to $500 for a vacuum cleaner. Other vacuum makers have caught on to Dyson's design, but at half the cost.

I wound up buying a Hoover WindTunnel + Cyclonic on sale for about $180. Negatives - It's heavy. The cord is about 2 feet shorter than I am use to. The control to turn the brush off and on is confusing. Positives - The cord is retractable. Yay! It sure can suck up the dirt & dog hair. I have 3 dogs and I probably vacuum two to three times a week. The first time I used it I was shocked how much just plain ol' dirt it sucked up out of my carpet in the family room. Made me think my old vacuum wasn't so good after all. It's good for bare floors, carpets & stairs.

have a central vac installed...second to none. I also have a Dyson which is outstanding in its own right, but nothing compares to CV.

I'm looking for one as well which has good steam cleaning capabilities. My previous was a bagless and I didn't like that because I feel bags contain the dirt a lot better.

I feel the same way. I want to get a Dyson, but I just don't feel right about shelling out that much money for a vacuum cleaner. I've also read that it may suck so hard that it can eventually ruin the carpet. Has anyone heard any truth behind this? It seems a little farfetched IMO. I was thinking about the windtunnel, it has good ratings, seems affordable and seems to be a good alternative. I'm glad to hear another positive comment about it. And who doesn't love a retractable cord!
