Here in FL, I usually wear low-cut light socks, I find it comfortable and it helps keep my feet clean (you should see how dirty my socks are sometimes, lol). Lately Ive been taking them off in the house and going barefoot occasionally, I guess I should re-think that. In the north, I almost always wore socks inside, not a big fan of most slippers. Will go a step further (pardon the pun) and sometimes will put lotion on my feet and wear socks to bed, it helps keep my feet smooth.

We have area rugs that the wife takes in and has them professionally cleaned once a year but otherwise, all tile. I have socks I wear for around the house only, she uses house slippers. As kid, I didn't have shoes at all until I had to go to school. We had wood floors at home. Strange subject, LOL!
We have high quality pure wool carpet. And we go barefoot quite a bit. No oil matting the carpet down.

I couldn't live like that. The only way that I am comfortable is barefoot in the house and sometimes outside. During cold weather just wear socks to keep my feet warm . My wife same thing. I even take my shoes off driving sometimes just more comfortable.

3 Gross Reasons You Shouldn't Wear Shoes In The House | HuffPost
Many studies have been done like this yet there is still a large number of passionate people who insist that you should wear your shoes in the house. They will be obsessive about cleaning some things yet have no qualms walking with their shoes on their carpeting. I will never understand their thinking especially when they have babies crawling around.

WHAAAT? Cat hair enters your foot? This sound like Sci-Fi! And someone else mentioned "dog hair splinters"? What's going on here?

Now I have to look up "philacule"....
spell-check didn't like it...

barefoot at every opportunity..... although in winter, I do have to wear socks and slippers......

I am fortunate to be self employed and can wear flip flops (nice ones) to work in the warm weather.... the only time I wear grown up clothes and shoes is when I am seeing a client or going to a job site......

Oddly enough, though, I find myself wearing socks as I recuperate from my hip replacement last Friday......

What is a philacule? DO you mean follicle?

I have 2 cats and walk around in the house barefoot when it's warm. I have never had any swelling foot problems due to their hair! And I have had cats for over 20 years! I think your doctor is giving yo a line of BS!
