Try rubbing alcohol. It always removes tape residue. Trick I learned at the hospital

It's also good for removing those painful band aids that are stuck in hair or just hurt to remove.

I think the first question is- what is the residue on?
That will make a big difference as to what you should use.
I'd hate for you to ruin a nice finish on something.

You could try vinegar. I know I use it for stickers on packages that I need to get off before giving as presents.

There is an orange based goo remover. I cannot remember the name. It works well, but you have to let it sit for a bit. It smells nice.
