Last night after 40+ years of painting my nails, I dropped and broke a bottle of nail polish..... it looked like I had killed a small animal - of course it was red polish!!

I got 95% of it cleaned up - but there is a faint tinge of pink to the tiles - they are 12 x 12 fake Travertine type tiles and I'm need to figure out what will take the rest of the polish off. do I sit on the floor with polish remover again tonight??? any suggestions???

Is your polish remover pure acetone? That will remove more than the non-acetone polish removers do. Test a small area first, though. I've used it on my ceramic tile and it hasn't damaged it, but not all tile is the same. I also wouldn't use it on the grout.

And make sure you have excellent ventilation. Acetone vapors are not really good for you to be breathing for a long period.

If you can't get it off, you could put nail polish on the rest and wipe it off so it all matches...

Go to the paint or hardware store and buy a can of Acetone. You will probably have to let it sit a while to bring up as much as possible of the red color. If these are ceramic tiles there should be no risk. Do not put acetone on any kind of vinyl or linoleum.

Definitely have lots of ventilation.

Straight acetone will do much better than nail polish remover which has all kinds of oils and perfumes added (to mitigate the effects of acetone on your skin).

let the acetone sit for a while and then put kitty litter on it. Let that sit 30 minutes at least and then sweep it up first and then vacuum the residue. May need to repeat.

You can also buy pure acetone polish remover, to save yourself a trip to the hardware store. It's the only thing that takes off glitter polish or acrylic tips, so any store that sells polish remover will have one variety that is pure acetone.

Eh - she's been doing her nails for 40 years, she'll survive this as well - hope the tile will too!

Try to find this stuff called Goof Off, it will even remove dried paint. As some others have suggested, test in a hidden spot first, be sure it's compatible with your floor.

Lacquer Thinner...but be careful...ventilation, and try a blind spot to make sure it doesn't injure the tile.
