I have the Weber Q grill. I got the stand and a cover, and use the larger propane tank which lasted me for 2 seasons (cooking just for myself).

The last time I had a grill was many years ago when the gas grills had ceramic brickettes. I wish they still made that kind because they burned hotter and gave the food the charcoal taste. With the Weber Q you have to cook with the lid closed in order to keep it hot enough. But the advantage is you don't have to heat up the kitchen in the summer and don't have to clean the stove or oven after dinner.

My parents are sending me a Weber Q grill, the 1200 version HERE.
My dad has one and likes it a lot.

I used to have a charcoal grill but I think you really really have to like grilling to get into that. It takes more time and more clean up involved, imo.

If you are going with gas, you could just get a camping stove that has a grill. You can store those anywhere.

We recently got a small grill/smoker for camping. It acts as a small Charcoal barbeque, or you can attach it to a bigger grill as a smoker attachment and use it to smoke food on your regular grill. I think it was a Weber. We have not used it as a smoker, only as a portable for camping. It is small and holds only about 5-6 burgers at a time maximum. However, one person can carry it easily and it fits in the trunk of most cars without disassembly. It is fairly heavy steel, so I expect it will last a long time. It does not hold a ton of charcoal. There is a slide out tray where you spread a layer of charcoal. Thus you are not wasting a lot of charcoal. One downside - once it is hot, you cannot touch any part of it, so you better be happy with where it is wen you light it.
