"Show towels"?

Towels are meant to be used - even pretty ones. Additionally, I've never seen a towel that couldn't be washed. If someone dares to use a "show towel" - why could you not simply wash it and put it back?

It's just a towel.

Exactly- the nice towels are kept for guests- not for show. I do get a bit perturbed when the husband used one to wash his face after working in the yard, but there is not a towel in my house that doesn't get used by someone- "fancy towels" for the guest bath, towels for the family, and the old ones become "dog towels" for muddy paws...

Show towels....what a stupid concept. You want art, hang some on the wall. Towels are meant to be used.

If they are so "showy" - Frame it!!

That term is not even "Google-able"

I hang a hand towel in my downstairs bath, which I suppose one could call a "guest bath" but I just think of as a second bath. The towel gets changed a couple of times a week. I have only one color of towels, one set for each of us, plus a couple of extra hand towels. There are no paper towels anywhere in my house, but I do have a box of tissues on the table next to me, as my nose is running in response to poor air quality from forest fires.

I've seen show towels...with the fancy embroidery and satin...they aren't meant to be used. When you wash them, the embroidery buckles and the satin shrinks and shreds. Got yelled at by a friend's mother because I used the show towels.

It's a completely useless stupid thing....but it's a thing, and I've seen it.

Oh I know it was a "thing" - I guess I was surprised it still is. It puts to mind the plastic covers on furniture and lampshades. Buy stuff expecting to use it. Enjoy it and once it's worn out, replace it. At some point you'll most likely tire of it anyway.

I'm with the poster who said if you want art buy art, towels are to dry your hands.

I don't have show towels that are not meant to be used but I do have hand towels that were purchased specifically to go in the powder room that don't get used in other rooms. They don't have embroidery or satin but I did get them to match the color scheme and I have other colors in the other bathrooms.

I have a pedestal sink in our very small half bath that guests use. I found some monogrammed paper napkins and a paper napkin holder at Pier 1. So I put those on the back of the toilet. And I also have a hand towel (that I wash frequently) hanging beside the sink.

Got things covered!
