I beg to differ. I have had a few Corelle plates shatter, and literally explode, into millions of tiny shards and slivers a few times when I also didn't think they were suppose to break, let alone shatter like that. You could not even identify that it was a plate once it had shattered. And I am still finding tiny pieces to this day. Trust me, it is a mess that you will never want to deal with if it ever happens to you with all of those tiny slivers that sprayed everywhere and many pieces were even next to impossible to see with the naked eye.

They just aren't making them like they used to as far as how and where they are manufactured as well as the materials they use now. It has really gone downhill. It appears that I am not the only one based on many of these reviews I just found with a simple Google search.

It's a shame too because I have always loved the dishes otherwise but I won't purchase them anymore. And not sure where you were able to find the plates for only .99 each. I paid anywhere from $2 - $4 per dinner plate over the years.

Yes, the old Corelle didn't break, but the new break easily in many little pieces. Sadly technology changed, and now they use cheaper components. Same with pyrex that is not oven safe anymore like old PYREX used to be. Notice: pyrex vs PYREX.

About 20 years ago, a salesman showed us how durable corelle plates were by throwing on onto the concrete floor. The plate shattered. Memorable experience, but not a good sales technique.

Pyrex, with whatever capitals you choose, is a brand name. It's made from borosilicate glass.

Most dishes - no matter what they're made from - are made in China. It's not easy to find dishes made elsewhere.

Fiestaware is made in the US! It's the only one that I know is still made here.

If you are looking for unbreakable plates for kids (because we know toddlers throw things) try stainless steel. It is safe and indestructible.

My everyday dishes are Lenox Temperware. They will break, but not easily, and they are not light.

They have been out of production for many years but you can find them online, though they are a bit pricey.

Old Corelle most definitely broke. I had a set that I got in the early 1990s that I had about half left when I replaced 3 years ago. Tile floor and Corelle is not a good combination. My new set of Corelle and my wood floor are a much happier pair, zero broken pieces so far.

As for the OP, I think the links elnina kindly provided are your best bet although if you shared the intended function you need, you might get other ideas. For instance, there is some reusable, dishwasher safe bamboo dinnerware

I can't imagine it's cheaper to purchase plates here and ship to Qatar rather than just buying them there.
