just had this installed at the house we’re building. You can input your longitude/latitude and it will automatically turn on at sunset/off at sunrise, or you can manually enter whatever times you want. “set it....and forget it.”
You might b looking for high up lights but we use the solar lights on a stick. You stick them in the ground. A few styles at Dollar General for $1 each. Silver or black. Put them along our driveway and we're good to go unless a bear or that little animal with the hands carries them off. Even when they do, they drop them a few feet into the grass and it's pretty when the lawn is lit up too.
And if you want some light higher up just lay those sticks in your trees. Just be sure to give them some sun during the day.

We have some of those. Not happy. This year they will be thrown in the trash (recycle?) and new wires and lights put in.

I don't think they're supposed to compete with hardwired, floods, etc. We have those floods too. They were already there when we moved in and we just flick a switch inside the front door. Lights the driveway up like a landing strip. And some that take those extra tall ladders to replace the bulbs. But we don't always need them.
I have had both the screw in bulb adapters with photo-electric cells, as well as the actual bulbs with the sensors already installed. Both have performed well.
I did this in the darkest month of winter, when I was coming home in the dark. Put a 15W CFL in the outside light and turned it on before I left the house.
I use the Wemo light switches for all of my wall mounted outdoor lights. They simply replace the existing indoor wall mounted controls. I have them set to come on at sunset and turn off at sunrise.
At our first house we had a detached garage. I installed a light above the garage door and wired it to the garage door opener. The light would come on and stay on the same as the light on the opener. Gave us plenty of time to get into the house.
Not quite on subject, but you never know when someone will think, "Aha!".

I've thought about this as well. I like the idea of the ones that use latitude and longitude. If the lights we have now ever burn out (led) I think I'll look into it.
I did add a motion detector switch for the garage light inside so when we walk into the garage from the house or pull in the light comes on. One of our friends we play Bridge with liked it so much he bought one the day after he saw ours.
