There's the cheap way- it's called "masking tape"!

And there's this way-

That tool works but may be too short. Masking tape can not be used because the area to be painted is too high to use tape.

OK- clearly you're not a painter or have any idea how this works!
The attachment goes on the end of a painter's extension pole. The nice thing about it is it's totally adjustable- putting the paintbrush in just about any position.

The cheap version is taping the brush to the end of the extension pole.

Ha I said that tool would work. Masking tape not practical for the situation. I asked the question on the wrong forum it seems. I've painted inside and outside mobile homes and houses but not 2nd or 3rd story.

Not a physics major to decipher your method of the tape.
Not a good idea.

If the picnic table is pvc, you can buy pvc rattle can that bonds to the plastic. Pressure wash the table, let it dry, and spray away. It will be a brand new table. Do it outside, the fumes are fierce until it dries.

Paint the apex of a large house roof that is too high to reach by ladder. Not the roof the ends of the house.
Borrow/rent a real ladder.
