I think there should be a nice happy medium between tiny houses and mcmansions.... the nice small house. Big enough for full size appliances and furniture, but not two of everything (two eating areas, two living rooms) making it bigger than it needs to be. Somewhere around a thousand square feet, you can fit everything you need. Don't underestimate storage.... to live small, you need to have a place to put things AWAY so they aren't under foot.
Yes... let's bring back the bungalow! And eight-foot ceilings should be ample for almost everyone (other than NBA players).

I have to agree with this. I think there should be a movement for people who like "small houses", houses between 500 and 1000 sq ft that aren't on wheels. It's really hard to find anything like that, even on Youtube.
I love small houses a lot as well and bought one last year. It's 438 square feet, has a basement, driveway/garage and a small yard. It's not waterfront but just almost across the street from a lake and is very cute. Have been making some upgrades as I can. Here are some pics:
Location: Finally the house is done and we are in Port St. Lucie!

I think it is adorable. Kinda dainty. I live in 536 square and it seems enough for me. Some days I feel hemmed in. If you place that in a rural setting nature will be your living room.
Yes! That's basically what I dream of sometimes - living on a beautiful piece of land (somewhere in the PNW), with either a cabin, tiny house, or nice/funky trailer. As long as I also had some kind of storage shed or garage on site, I really don't need much actual living space.
Something like this, for example, would be right up my alley... the home/cabin itself obviously needs work, but the size and setting are perfect. And for those who aren't aware, this is CHEAP for the area (likely due to condition of the house + inconvenient location for commuters). https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...0_M23053-83078
As for the tiny house OP posted, I think it's absolutely charming... but unless it's on a large piece of land, it wouldn't work for me and my animals. If I didn't have pets (and hope to have even more one day), it would be fine for just me. But without suitable/safe outdoor space for the critters, it would get awfully crowded and stinky inside.
Not to mention, my 12 year-old 50lb dog would never be able to get up those stairs! He doesn't often sleep IN bed with me, but does like to be in whatever room I'm in at the time. And my 41 year-old butt ain't carrying him, lol. Speaking of which, even I would struggle with a ladder loft at this stage of life - which is too bad, since I love the look of them.

I really like that house. That would be the perfect size for me. Not a U Haul trailer sized "tiny house" and certainly not a resource eating McMansion. Good job on this house!
Talking about living space - yes, tiny houses and the whole idea of reducing all possessions to fit into ~500 sqft tiny house isn't for everyone. But I also think about all those retired people who sold their homes and bought motorhomes, and happily live in a ~300 sqft space, often with their spouse, and pets.
It's obviously doable, and enjoyable. One just need to adjust their lifestyle.
