I have them in my finished basement. I moved in about 2 1/2 months ago, and then due to injury, didn't unpack much. So I have a lot of clutter (half unpacked boxes), especially in the closets. Note that I sprayed the insects and webs with vinegar before taking the pictures (though that was probably dumb). Can you tell what kind of spiders they are? I have a pest control company and they will come out Tuesday. I want to make sure it is safe for me to be in the basement between now and then. The spiders are mostly in the closets though some do make their way into the finished living area. The red behind the third spider is just due to a poor paint job by the previous owners.

Edit: I think only 1 picture attached. I will attach the other 2 in a reply.

Some may tell you they are one of the most lethal spiders around. Good thing their mouth isn't big enough to bite us, eh? Well that was the myth for the longest time. Of course it not true.

I'm fascinated by how paranoid people are of spiders. It must be some kind of inbred thing from the days of cavemen. The vast majority of spiders cannot hurt you and don't bite anyone. They live their lives eating insects and otherwise mind their own business. They won't chase you from room to room or down the street trying to make you their next meal.

The only spiders around homes that are poisonous are the brown recluse (?) and black widow.

I'm one of those people. I will agree that it seems primal to me. I can recognize that my fear isn't rational, but maaannn...they make me cringe just thinking about them.

My husband and son have teased me about getting a pet tarantula. I told them the day a tarantula moves into this house, is the day I move out. Maybe I'm exaggerating. I don't think so though. I will not, CAN NOT stay in my house if I know IT'S in the house.
