Hi - We have built a new room and in that process had to add some more brick to the existing brick on the house. Even though we ordered the same brick, there is minor difference in the brick which us understandable.
About half of the height of the wall is built and it looks like the mortar color that is applied is different from what was there before. Different meaning the new color looks darker than the existing color.
I would like to know what kind of options do I have at this point without bringing down the wall that they have already built.
1) Is it possible to apply the correct color mortar on top of the existing mortar between the bricks ?
2) We are thinking of covering this half of the wall with some flower pots and try to do the upper half of the wall with the correct color mortar ?
3) Scrape off the existing mortar to apply the correct color on top of it.
The problem was that the guy said it is the exact color and there was no way for us to tell him it is not as the dried up color is different from the color mixed with mortar.
Matching mortar color isn't exactly rocket science- there's just "so" many.
However, the sand that is mixed with it could effect the finished color- how much is added and how clean the sand is. And of course age, and environmental conditions can also effect the color.
Hi - Thanks for the reply. Yeah it can get tricky to match the existing colors because of the factors you mentioned. Now that the color is a bit different, are there ways to apply the correct color over this by scrapping some of the mortar etc.
With the above, it also depends on when it was applied. It can take a few days to completely dry so it might be darker because you're seeing a "wet" look and it's not dry yet.
It has been about 3 days since it was applied. So not sure how many days to wait. I dont mind waiting but the color just does not look anywhere close to what it should be.
