My laundry room is currently on the main level of my house. I would like to move the washer and dryer to the basement in order to free up that space for another use (mudroom). However, my basement is below grade. We currently have plumbing and drainage for our basement bathroom, which drains into a pit with a "sewage ejector pump" that ejects it up to the main house line that drains to our septic tank. We would like to convert the basement bathroom to a new laundry room, which means that the washing machine would drain into this pit. If we implement this change, I am concerned about the frequency of pump ejection. The pump (and check valve) are very loud when they go off (which is rare because we don't use the basement bathroom that much). If the washer drained into this pit, how frequently would the pump eject? Once per washing cycle? 10 times per washing cycle? Does it depend on the volume of the "pit"? I can handle 1 ejection per wash, but I would be annoyed to keep hearing the pump if it did it more than once (I do at least two washes per day). Any thoughts? Thanks!

Likely a least 3 or 4 per wash. Figure a wash at 25 gallons and the float range within the pit tank as 5 to 10 gallons.

Pumps don't have to be loud though. A good plumber might help you out.

I can't answer your questions about drainage, but why would you trade a convenient laundry room for hundreds of trips up and down the stairs every month with heavy baskets of laundry? Most people welcome having the laundry on the main level. New houses for the last several decades have laundry on the main level. I think you are going backwards.

Find another way to create a mudroom. Maybe a part of the garage or convert a closet or hallway area.

This. Think the daily/weekly/annual overhead of effort through before you decide having a mudroom is a better deal.
